A graphic design student at KCC decided to do field studies, internship and service learning classes by applying graphic design skills to help non-profits. This website is part of that process. It is part of an honors project to guide and inspire other students to use their skills to help their community.
Whatever your forte is, there is a real need for graphic design work to benefit non-profits. Smaller non-profit groups may be strapped for funds and have a real need for pro-bono work.
If you are a college student, you may be able to apply credits for your work for non-profits. The benefits go far beyond monetary compensation. Just knowing that you have filled a need that will help others and that you are a part of a real attempt to improve the world, whether it is to help by doing a brochure for a peace group, or doing a poster for a charitable event, or doing a flyer for a non-profit art coop gallery, or business cards for a food bank, or a website for an environmental group, you will have a inner feeling of accomplishment. The group you are helping may spread the word about your talent and it may lead to a "paying" position. It will certainly lead to some very good karma.
In the column to the left are some examples of simple ways to help non-profits. They were done by a college student.
Working to help by using knowledge, skill, and talent for the betterment of humanity can be a lifelong process.
Work can be a celebration of life. It is up to you!!
